Most people with some ramen experience are familiar with the most common varieties, such as Tonkotsu, and flavours such as Miso and Shoyu. But if you want to try things like Ice Ramen, Bonito Ramen, or Lobster Ramen, some of these can only be found outside the “Golden Line” of Tokyo to Kyoto. I would also like to introduce you to the best Ramen and Tsukemen restaurants I’ve found in urban centres such as Kyoto, Tokyo, Fukuoka, and Sapporo.
I’m Jonny, Ramen Enthusiast. I fell in love with Japanese food as a child, and visited Japan for the first time in 2022. I have worked my way through many bowls of Ramen off the beaten track, all the way from Otaru, Hokkaido, down to Makurazaki, Kagoshima.
In 2024 I spent several weeks exploring some of the lesser known towns and cities of Japan, sampling many varieties of Ramen. I’ve found some real gems, and I’d love to share those with you on a tour.
Unfortunately, regional Japan can be intimidating for some people, with idiosyncratic train systems, less English speakers than tourist centers, and often menus are handwritten in Japanese. However, I’ve got practice navigating these, and would love to remove these as barriers for you, while taking you to spots with the most incredible food.
If you’re interested, email me at [email protected] with a rough timeframe (e.g. 7 days), how many people, and if you have any strong preferences about where we go, what we eat, etc.
All tours are private, and customised to your preferences, timeframe, budget, etc.
I’m happy to mix in some other food varieties:
